Excerpt
Continuous ambulatory electrocardiographic monitoring was introduced in the 1960s and has become a common technique for evaluating arrhythmias in patients with a wide variety of cardiac diseases. The frequency response of early generation recorders was not adequate for accurate reproduction of low-frequency events, such as the ST segment or T wave, and the systems were intended only for evaluation of the cardiac rhythm. Although most of the recording and playback systems available today do not fully meet standards suggested by the American Heart Association for signal reproduction, they are probably adequate for evaluation of ST-segment depression or elevation as currently
