    Abstract

Complicated and disseminated gonococcal infections caused by penicillinase-producing Neisseria gonorrhoeae are beginning to be reported. We describe four patients with gonococcal septic arthritis in whom penicillinaseproducing gonococci were isolated from joint fluid. These cases responded to antibiotic therapy that was known to be effective against penicillinase-producing N. gonorrhoeae.
