    Excerpt

To the editor: In his otherwise excellent review of ibuprofen (1), Dr. Kantor has omitted adverse renal side effects when he discusses this drug's adverse effects. Over the last 2 years, significant attention has been directed towards deterioration of renal function caused by nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, including ibuprofen (2-5). The mechanism of the renal dysfunction is believed to involve renal prostaglandin synthetase inhibition with resulting alteration in renal hemodynamics (2).
