In the big leagues of comprehensive textbooks of medicine the undisputed British champion is Price's. This twelfth edition (the eleventh was published in 1973) upholds the tradition of quality. The eighteen sections have been either revised or newly written by a more than doubled list of 79 contributors, all of whom are from Britain.

Information is organized by subject, in contrast to the problem-oriented approach of some North American counterparts; this structural style may not appeal to some readers.
