Health Implications of Nuclear Energy
Excerpt
To the editor: Few controversies today reflect so dramatically the need for public education as does that arising from fear of the consequences of environmental radiation. A recent editorial in this journal, "Health Implications of Nuclear Power Production" (1), suggested that physicians should be as aware of potential threats to health as they are of clearly documented current sources of illness, injury, and disability (1).
As in other public debates involving judgment, there are biases and merits on each side of the arena. Much of the editorial, however, elaborated on hypothetical circumstances of extreme degree and very low probability.
