To the editor: The paper by Lapis and colleagues (Ann Intern Med 89:61-63, 1978) gave rise to considerable concern among our referring physicians, since our experience with ultrasound in the jaundiced patient during the past 5 years has led us to totally different results and conclusions (1, 2), results that have been substantiated by many other independent groups (3, 4).
