Preparing and publishing a new medical dictionary is no small task. On this criterion alone the compilers of Dictionnaire français de Médicine et de Biologie merit praise for their having put together a major French dictionary with scholarly orientation for medicine and the biomedical sciences. Incidentally, the scope of the "biologie" in its title is biomedical sciences, rather than biology in its broadest sense, English or French. Its first volume, covering "A." through "dyszoospermie," came out in 1970; the third volume, which completed the dictionary proper with "zymurgie," came out in 1972.
