To the editor: Doctor Magee's "Perspective" (Ann Intern Med 83:563-564, 1975) through the stirrups during pelvic examination stimulates another perspective that is shared by both sexes. It is that of a proctosigmoidoscopy, which can be as comfortable for a patient as it is informative for an examiner.
Rather than urging every surgeon to undergo surgery, only to add to an already overpublicized market, it seems reasonable to recommend this procedure for every fledgling proctologist and gastroenterologist. Should it be a Board prerequisite?
