Kent and his associates at the University of Iowa have been interested in the methods of teaching medical students, especially the development and validation of test questions. Thus, one might expect a text from their group to have survived the rigors of extensive self-examination. This seems to be the case with their treatment of the principles of pathology—often called general pathology—in which they use the programmatic approach to guide the student through this often rather dull collection of principles and facts. The publisher advises that 6 months after finishing the course, students did 20% better when they used this text,
