To the editor: Information concerning membranous nephropathy is much needed, particularly in view of the diversity of opinion on the natural history of this lesion and whether glucocorticoids and cytotoxic agents are effective treatment. Randall and associates have made strong claims for the efficacy of cyclophosphamide (1), but details of their study have not been published. Membranous lesions are being treated with glucocorticoids in two cooperative studies (2, 3); in both studies, membranous nephropathy and lipoid nephrosis (nil lesions) are considered as though the lesions required the same steroid dosage and duration of treatment.
