Membranous Glomerulonephritis and Steroids
Excerpt
To the editor: I am confused about the conclusion reached by Gluck and co-workers in their recent article "Membranous Glomerulonephritis" (Ann Intern Med 78:1-12, 1973) concerning the value of steroids in the treatment of membranous glomerulonephritis. They state, "we conclude that steroid therapy does not affect the frequency of remissions. . . . Nonetheless, in our experience the temporal relationship between the occurrence of remission and the administration of corticoid therapy in an occasional patient suggests that this therapy is effective in some instances." If corticoid therapy is effective in some instances, then it must affect the frequency of remission.
