The new Chinese Medical Journal, the official publication of the Chinese Medical Association of the People's Republic of China, finally made its debut in January of 1973. In view of the numerous exciting and new medical developments in China through recent years ( 1 ), including the revolutionary and innovative concept of "barefoot doctors" (2) and the successful integration of traditional Chinese medicine and modern Western medicine (3), this journal's rebirth was long overdue.
