    To the editor: Dr. Benedek and I have shared Dr. Capusan's doubts concerning the nature of the illness of the young woman described by Dr. Curzio in 1753 (1) and in a recent chapter on progressive systemic sclerosis. I, too, have suggested that signorina Patrizia Galieri may have had scleredema adultorum of Buschke rather than scleroderma (2). I would take issue, however, with several of the arguments adduced by Dr. Capusan in excluding the diagnosis of scleroderma.
