    To the editor: We were pleased to see Dr. Stead and Dr. Bates' article on "silent" bacillemia in primary tuberculosis in the April ANNALS (74:559-561, 1971). Several papers were referenced that supported their statement that bacillemia in the course of primary tuberculosis has been demonstrated in animals. We wish to call attention to a demonstration of a bacillemia in animals reported in a paper (SMITH, MCMURRAY, WIEGESHAUS, et al: Am Rev Resp Dis 102:937-949, 1970) published while the Stead-Bates paper was in press.
