Cryoproteins in Poststreptococcal Glomerulonephritis

To the editor: The detection of cryoproteins in immunologic disease is well recognized. In our recent article, "Cryoglobulinemia and Disease" (1), I mentioned the inability to detect streptococcal antigens in the cryoprecipitates of patients with acute poststreptococcal glomerulonephritis. Since these studies we have immunized animals with large quantities of pooled cryoprecipitates from patients with streptococcal glomerulonephritis. The antisera was anticomplimentary and contained antibodies to human IgG, IgM, and beta_1C but no other serum proteins. Antibody to streptococcal proteins in the antisera could not be detected by double layer immunofluorescence or other techniques. This suggests that these precipitates are not complexes
