Hypercalcemia Associated with Neoplastic Disease

    Abstract

    Hypercalcemia frequently complicates the course of patients with neoplastic disease. The clinical manifestations of this electrolyte imbalance may overshadow those of the underlying disorder, and patients whose disease might be susceptible to palliation or cure may succumb to this complication before appropriate therapy can be instituted. Detailed knowledge of the pathophysiology, clinical consequences, and treatment of hypercalcemia is essential in the management of patients with neoplasia.
