In the spring of 1899 Dr. Ludvig Hektoen of Chicago received material for culture taken from a subcutaneous abscess by Dr. C. F. Perkins of Shenandoah, Iowa. The renowned Hektoen was able to identfy the fungus he recovered as a Sporotrichium that Schenk had first reported as a pathogen in 1898 (1). Dr. Perkins was probably somewhat surprised by this and also by his patient's complete recovery since Schenk's first patient had died. I was somewhat surprised to discover Dr. Perkins' patient alive and well 65 years after his historic illness. The present report will briefly review the original paper
