Excerpt
Dr. Nathaniel I. Berlin: This Combined Clinical Staff Conference will be devoted to certain aspects of cancer of the breast. This is the most common malignant tumor in the female. It has been the subject of extensive study by surgeons, radiologists, endocrinologists, internists, and pathologists, and in the laboratory by studies in the mouse.
There has been a long-standing campaign, particularly sparked by the American Cancer Society, for self-examination with a view towards early detection. The National Cancer Institute is sponsoring a large-scale program to evaluate mammography in the subscribers to the Health Insurance Plan in New York City.
