No dramatic therapeutic or diagnostic innovations have appeared this year to diminish the toll of cancer on the American population. Bronchogenic carcinoma remains the number one internal malignant tumor of the male. Its incidence in the younger age groups and its over-all frequency in men continues to increase (1) as does the domestic sale and foreign export of cigarettes (2). Despite the public's apparent willful disregard of the overwhelming evidence that relates cigarette smoking as a major factor in lung cancer, it is encouraging that the medical profession both in Great Britain and in the United States is responding to
