Workowski and colleagues (1) report the emerging antimicrobial resistance in Neisseria gonorrhoeae and the urgent need for an integrated, comprehensive approach to gonorrhea control. In particular, we agree with the importance of enhancement of national and international surveillance systems to monitor antimicrobial resistance. The Japanese government has not conducted nationwide surveillance of antimicrobial resistance of N. gonorrhoeae or placed high priority on funding such surveillance.
