    The meta-analysis by Kalil and colleagues (1) examining universal prophylaxis and preemptive therapy for cytomegalovirus (CMV) organ disease addresses an important issue. However, the conclusions may be potentially misleading because of significant limitations of the included studies, variability in the duration of prophylaxis and the length of follow-up in the published studies, and the selection of trials for the meta-analysis.
