    TO THE EDITOR:

    The recent review and ethical analysis of the Terri Schiavo case by Perry, Churchill, and Kirshner is generally excellent (1). The authors do, however, make 1 important claim that is incorrect: that the Schiavo case “rests critically on the concept of the persistent vegetative state.” This mistake is made by most observers of the case and tends to detract from, rather than contribute to, the discourse regarding Terri Schiavo's case.
