To the Editors: We read with interest the letter by Doblin and Kleiman stating that nearly half of all oncologists polled reported having recommended illegal use of marijuana for the control of chemotherapy-induced emesis (1). Although reports of benefits from marijuana treatment are anecdotal, many patients with the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) have experimented with marijuana to combat anorexia and weight loss, and the United States government supplies marijuana cigarettes to a small number of patients on a compassionate-use basis.
