Christmas on the AIDS Ward
Excerpt
When AIDS patients try to talk
and are near death
the former Surgeon General said
they are like kittens.
They open their mouths to cry
but no sound comes out.
The virus spreads
even on holy days.
It replicates even during feasts.
It robs us of strength
even on most high and holy days.
But on the AIDS ward
during Christmas there is
strength and reason
enough to weep.
