Cimetidine in Eosinophilie Fasciitis

To the editors: Eosinophilic fasciitis is a recently discovered syndrome, first described by Shulman in 1974. Corticotherapy is the usual treatment, providing dramatic improvement in induration and swelling. Some papers (1-3) recently reported that Cimetidine is an effective treatment.

We used Cimetidine in six patients with this syndrome with no benefit. There were three men and three women (mean age, 44 years; range, 32 to 69 years at time of diagnosis). The diagnosis of eosinophilic fasciitis was supported in these patients by the rapid onset of painful edema with subcutaneous induration of the limbs and trunk, sparing the face
