To the Editor: Kovacs and colleagues (1) recently reported on combined treatment with interferon-alpha and zidovudine in patients with the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS)-associated Kaposi sarcoma. In their discussion, the question was raised whether the interferon-alpha alone or the combination was responsible for the antitumor activity. As we have shown in our previous single-agent interferon-alpha study (2), all major responses that were induced by the initial daily interferon-alpha schedule further improved or became complete responses during the thrice weekly maintenance schedule.
