Treatment for Stroke
Excerpt
To the Editor: The recent editorial by Barsan and colleagues (1) on early treatment for acute ischemic stroke states that "there is no proven treatment to reverse ischemic stroke, whether initiated early or late." However, later in the editorial the authors, surprisingly, state the following:
Emergency medical system personnel have been educated concerning the need for urgent stroke treatment and are encouraged to notify the hospital whenever a stroke patient is en route. The emergency physician then notifies a special stroke team before the patient arrives. Stroke treatment can then be instituted within 30 to 60 minutes from arrival. .
