To the Editor: Reed and Jacob (1) report on renal toxicity following high-dose carboplatin (800 mg/m2 body surface) in patients pretreated with cisplatin who have refractory ovarian cancer. A substantial decrease in creatinine clearance was seen in three patients. In nine other patients who received vigorous intravenous hydration no reductions in creatinine clearance occurred. Mulder and colleagues (2) reported a case history of a patient who developed renal failure after a cumulative dose of carboplatin of 750 mg/m2 in 3 days. This patient was also pretreated with a regimen containing cisplatin. However, carboplatin has also proved to be nephrotoxic
