To the editor: Among the bacterial infections most suggestive of the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) are those caused by Mycobacterium avium complex, Mycobacterium kansasii, and disseminated forms of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (1). We present the case of an infection with Mycobacterium leprae associated with AIDS, a case that has not previously been reported.
A 43-year-old homosexual man who had lived in Brazil from 1972 to 1985 was treated in December 1985 for a large, annular, partially anesthetic lesion with raised borders and a healing center on the left forearm. A few satellites were found close to this patch. Further skin lesions
