    In this issue Kassirer and colleagues (1) at Tufts University School of Medicine review the progress that has been made in applying formal decision analysis to medicine. Their article covers methodologic advances, selected applications, assessment, and recommendations for the future. The perspective of these authors is particularly valuable, as they have played a major role in this field. Although many other investigators in both clinical and nonclinical fields have applied decision sciences to the clinical setting, the Tufts group is recognized as one of the leaders in the field.
