A New Series of Papers on Diagnostic Tests

Excerpt

The two articles in the Diagnosis and Treatment section of this issue (1, 2) signal a new series on well-informed use of diagnostic tests that will run through 1986 and into 1987. The articles are being prepared in response to the Blue Cross-Blue Shield Medical Necessity Project on Laboratory and Pathology Services and in response to the judgment of the American College of Physicians that reimbursement decisions by Blue Cross-Blue Shield plans should be based on scientific data rather than on opinions.
