Conclusion 4 of Physicians for the Twenty-First Century (1), the American Association of Medical Colleges' report issued last fall and already widely known as the GPEP Report, addresses the clinical education of the medical student and recommends that:
1. Medical faculties should make explicit the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values that they wish the clinical clerkship to instill.
2. The clinical settings appropriate to these goals should be described and provided.
3. Faculty concerned with clinical education should operate in the framework of the goals of the clerkship and should have adequate preparation, time, and resources for this purpose.
