    In contrast to speculation about the future of the physician investigator, real information on academic medicine manpower has been provided by a little-known committee of the National Academy of Sciences Institute of Medicine. A decade ago, the National Research and Service Awards Act (NRSA) (P.L. 93-348), the legislation that established training grants and fellowships in biomedical and behavioral fields, required that an oversight committee publish periodic reports.
