Inhaled Corticosteroids and Adrenal Function

Andrew White, MD, and
Donald P. Woodmansee, MD
19 October 2004 | Volume 141 Issue 8 | Page W-123
IN RESPONSE:
Dr. Romney makes an important distinction in his comment on our case report. "Adrenal Suppression from Inhaled Corticosteroids" might have been a better title for our letter. The case we described demonstrates that inhaled corticosteroids can have systemic effects. Although rare, these effects should be included in the differential diagnosis of patients who have symptoms or signs of cortisol excess and are taking inhaled corticosteroids.
