The frequency plot demonstrates the distribution of observed doubling times for 67 pulmonary nodules and mass lesions from the Veterans Administration–Armed Forces Cooperative Study on Asymptomatic Pulmonary Nodules (20). The monthly probability of disease progression (black circles) was assumed to be a function of the tumor doubling time.
