American Association for the Study of Headache 1999 Clinical Fellowships
The American Association for the Study of Headache (AASH) announces the availability of the 1999 Clinical Fellowships. The AASH/Glaxo Wellcome, Inc., Clinical Headache Fellowship and the AASH/Merck Clinical Fellowship Stipend will provide $40 000 and $20 000, respectively, during 1 year to allow recipients to pursue clinical research and obtain advanced clinical training in all aspects of headache diagnosis, management, and prevention. American Association for the Study of Headache 1999 Research Awards
The American Association for the Study of Headache (AASH) announces the availability of the 1999 Research Awards. The AASH/Glaxo Wellcome, Inc., Headache Research Award will provide $40 000 during 1 year to the applicant who presents the best proposal for basic or clinical research on migraine and related disorders. The AASH/Merck Migraine and Women's Health Research Award will provide $20 000 during 1 year to the applicant who presents the best proposal for basic or clinical research on the relation between women's health issues and migraine. The AASH/Pfizer, Inc., Headache Research Award will provide $20 000 during 1 year to the applicant who presents the best proposal for basic or clinical research on the pathogenesis, diagnosis, or management of headache or face pain. The AASH/Eli Lilly Headache and Depression Research Award will provide $15 000 during 1 year to the applicant who presents the best proposal for basic or clinical research on the relation between headache and depression. Applicants for all awards must be willing to present the results of their research at an annual scientific meeting of the AASH and provide a progress report after 6 months of work. The Council of Biology Editors (CBE) Authorship Task Force invites submission of abstracts for poster presentation at a retreat that will be held during the annual CBE meeting in Montreal, Canada, on 24 May 1999. Potential topics include all aspects of authorship in biomedical publication, including institutional policies, forms of author or contributor lists, and authors' perceptions of authorship problems and proposed solutions. Reports of original research will receive preferential consideration. Instructions for submission are as follows: Type the title and text of an abstract on a single sheet of plain paper (8.5 x 11 inches). The title is limited to 100 characters, and the abstract cannot exceed 250 words. This page must not contain any information that would identify the authors to a reviewer. On a separate cover sheet, list the title of the abstract and the names, affiliations, mailing addresses, telephone and fax numbers, and e-mail addresses of the authors. Send the cover page and three copies of the abstract to Phil Fontanarosa, Senior Editor, Journal of the American Medical Association, 515 North State Street, Chicago, IL 60610. The deadline for submission of abstracts is 15 March 1999.
Examinations
American Board of Internal Medicine 1999 Certification Examinations
The American Board of Internal Medicine will offer certification examinations in sports medicine and internal medicine. The examination for sports medicine will be held on 16 April 1999 and is the last one for which diplomates may qualify through a practice pathway. The examination in internal medicine will be held on 24-25 August 1999.
