IN RESPONSE:
We agree with Dr. Finucane that the association among nutrient intake, measures of nutritional status, and the development of pressure ulcers is complex. Unfortunately, our database did not contain information on these variables. Such information would have been useful, both to better define this clinical condition and to understand differences in patient mix that may affect a facility's rate of pressure ulcer development. Further studies are needed in this area.
