who drew the gas
but not her name,

the name of the nurse
pushing Lasix
but nothing else.

And who was I, for that matter?
Another listener to lungs
in a Trauma Room.

"No tubes," the old man muttered
behind his oxygen mask.
"I've got no one."

At the words
we looked to each other,
before we looked at him.
