LITERATURE OF MEDICINE

Reviews and Notes: Ophthalmology: Infections of the Eye

1 December 1996 | Volume 125 Issue 11 | Page 944

2nd edition. KF Tabbara and RA Hyndiuk. 741 pages. Boston: Little, Brown; 1996. $179.95. ISBN 0-316-83019-4. Order phone 800-759-0190.

Although this is primarily a practical textbook on the diagnosis and treatment of ocular infections (viral, bacterial, spirochetal, fungal, and parasitic), its introductory chapters cover relevant basic concepts in immunology, microbiology, and laboratory procedures. Particularly troublesome infectious diseases, such as Lyme disease and leprosy, are covered in special chapters. The book is primarily intended for ophthalmologists, but internists may find it to be a useful supplement to their own major textbooks.
