LITERATURE OF MEDICINE

Reviews and Notes: Diabetes in America

1 February 1996 | Volume 124 Issue 3 | Pages 377-378

2nd edition. National Diabetes Data Group. 781 pages. Bethesda, MD: National Institutes of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases; 1995. $20.00. NIH Publication No. 95-1468. Order phone 301-654-3327.

A comprehensive, detailed picture of current clinical and epidemiologic knowledge of diabetes mellitus in the United States. Its content is described by the publisher as "36 chapters, written by recognized experts, [that] address the descriptive epidemiology of diabetes, complications of the disease, characteristics of therapy and medical care for diabetes, economic aspects, and diabetes in special race [and] ethnic populations." For such an exhaustive treatment of these topics, this survey sells at a bargain price.
