LITERATURE OF MEDICINE

Reviews and Notes: Stroke: 100 Maxims

1 September 1995 | Volume 123 Issue 5 | Page 398

FM Yatsu, JC Grotta, and LC Pettigrew. 178 pages. St. Louis: Mosby; 1995. $38.00. ISBN 0-8016-7281-3. Order phone 800-426-4545.

The maxims—pithy statements of diagnostic, therapeutic, or prognostic principles that are sometimes labeled "pearls"—are each followed by text explaining the rationale for the maxim and, usually, relevant references. The maxims are grouped into chapters representing their common themes, for example, "Lacunar Stroke" and "Completed Stroke." Not all of the judgments are supported by references, but the authors take care to point out which questions have unsettled answers.
