A new, compact reference work that does for neurology what the renowned Oxford Companions have done for music, literature, art, medicine broadly, and law: It is a cross between a dictionary and a one-volume encyclopedia. It carries generously ample definitions of neurologic symptoms, signs, syndromes, individual diseases, and tests; short biographical sketches of eminent figures in neurology; and entries representing professional and patient-help organizations. Many of the short articles on diseases, tests, and indices are accompanied by tabular compilations of diagnostic criteria and scoring systems. The text is backed up by 5010 appended bibliographic references, which are cited at the relevant points in the text.
