Written by two surgeons and an internist, this manual emphasizes postoperative cardiothoracic patients but is also intended to be of practical use to those caring for all critically ill patients. Any manual that reviews respirators and respiratory management in 16 easy-to-read pages is worth a glance. Illustrated with representative computed tomographic scans, electrocardiograms, and echocardiograms. One must presume that the authors have reviewed the references and do not consider those more than 20 years old to be dated.
