The stated goal of this large book is to provide "a solid background on its rationale and beginning as well as discussions on current problems and their solutions." Bone marrow transplantation began with Fabricious-Moeller in guinea pigs in 1922; the field is now complicated enough to require a 3-page glossary, from ABC (ATP-binding cassette) through LTC-ic (long-term culture initiating cells) to the simple WBC. Dr. E. Donnall Thomas, one of the book's many contributors, and Dr. John Murray shared a Nobel Prize in 1960 for their work in clinical bone marrow transplantation. Referenced and illustrated. A specialist's book from which nonspecialists may profit if they or their libraries can make the considerable investment.
