Cornelius N. Stover, John R. McCarroll, and William J. Mallon; eds. 205 pages. Philadelphia: F. A. Davis; 1994. $59.00.
Do not be put off by the punning title; there is much in this book for physicians in primary care, rehabilitation medicine, and some subspecialties, notably cardiology. Various injuries are summarized, and modes of preparation for healthy and effective playing are detailed (training and conditioning, psychology). Three chapters are devoted to golfers with special problems, including cardiac disorders, physical limitations such as amputations and blindness, and joint replacements. Six chapters cover the problems likely to develop in the back, shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand, and leg. Medical problems that may arise in tournaments are described. Generously illustrated.
