Environmental teratogens are responsible for fewer than 10% of congenital abnormalities, but these abnormalities are the most preventable. From A (acebutolol) to Z (zolamine), listings of each drug include their brand names and synonyms; their clinical use; the magnitude of teratogenic risk associated with them (often undetermined); the quality and quantity of data about them; key references about them; animal data; authors' comments; and related entries. Authors' caveat: Although this book would be useful for counseling pregnant women, the manufacturers' package inserts must still be consulted. Data were derived from TERIS, a database developed with grants from the U.S. Public Health Service and the Department of Pediatrics and the School of Medicine at the University of Washington.
