TO THE EDITOR:
We are indebted to the patients and investigators who participated in the study of intravenous iloprost in the treatment of Raynaud phenomenon secondary to systemic sclerosis [1]. Although an intravenous form of iloprost is marketed in most European countries, Berlex Laboratories will not pursue further development of this form in the United States. The considerable additional development work needed to support approval for marketing this treatment in the United States will instead be devoted to developing the data necessary to support oral administration of iloprost.
