Additions to a Library for Internists VIII

The following books are recommended by the American College of Physicians for the Library of Internists VIII [1] in addition to the list published in the 15 April 1994 issue of Annals of Internal Medicine. They will be incorporated in the library and displayed at future Annual Sessions.

Hemostasis and Thrombosis: Basic Principles and Clinical Practice. 3rd edition. By R. W. Colman, J. Hirsh, V. J. Mader and E. W. Salzman. J.B. Lippincott, Philadelphia, 1600 pages. $195.00.

The third edition includes important new topics such as hemostatic abnormalities in AIDS, treatment of venous thromboembolism, thrombolytic therapy, anticoagulation therapy with common agents, and mechanisms of action of antiplatelet drugs.

Thrombosis and Hemorrhage. Edited by J. Loscalzo and A. I. Schafer. Blackwell Scientific, Cambridge, 1994. 1406 pages. $225.00.

Written for both cardiologists and hematologists, this text reviews the determinants of hemostasis and thrombosis. It covers basic science, clinical problems, diagnosis, treatment, and management of vascular disorders as well as inherited and acquired disorders of the clotting system.

About Letters

The Editors welcome submissions for possible publication in the Letters section. Authors of letters should:

•Include no more than 300 words of text, three authors, and five references

•Type with double-spacing

•Send three copies of the letter, an authors' form signed by all authors, and a cover letter describing any conflicts of interest related to the contents of the letter.

Letters commenting on an Annals article will be considered if they are received within 6 weeks of the time the article was published. Only some of the letters received can be published. Published letters are edited and may be shortened; tables and figures are included only selectively. Authors will be notified that the letter has been received. If the letter is selected for publication, the author will be notified about 3 weeks before the publication date. Unpublished letters cannot be returned.

Annals welcomes electronically submitted letters.
