Diseases of the Aorta
space

Joseph Lindsay, Jr. 315 pages. Philadelphia: Lea & Febiger; 1994. $75.00.

After a review of the anatomy and physiology of the aorta, hereditary, congenital, and acquired diseases are discussed. Congenital anomalies are treated in a 34-page chapter. Inexplicably, atherosclerosis is given only 10 pages, as are primary sarcomas, of which the authors could find only 29 case reports. Many of the references are more than 15 years old. An excellent chapter on diagnostic imaging is the longest, and the principles of operative treatment of aneurysm are well discussed, as is ultrasound imaging for aortic disease. The numerous line drawings and radiographic and ultrasound illustrations are excellent.
