In January 1991, ACP Journal Club was introduced as a supplement to Annals of Internal Medicine. Journal Club's distribution with Annals means that it is received by over 100 000 physicians worldwide. Many readers find it an indispensable tool for locating what is relevant and important in their stack of journals.
Over the past several years, however, we have received many requests from physicians who are outside the traditional Annals readershipsurgeons, general practitioners outside the United States, and other medical specialists who want to keep up with what is going on in internal medicine. In response to those requests, we are now offering subscriptions to ACP Journal Club alone, effective in December 1994. Readers will have the following choices: New subscribers and those renewing their subscriptions may choose Annals alone, ACP Journal Club alone, or both publications. (All members of the American College of Physicians will continue to receive both publications as a benefit of membership.)
The scientific literature continues to grow exponentially [1], forcing most readers to be even more selective about what they can read and to be concerned that they may miss something they ought to read. This dilemma has made Journal Club, with its strict selection criteria, very popular. We hope making ACP Journal Club easily available to readers outside the Annals audience will help more physicians deal with the endless problem of keeping up with the literature.
